| Since the foundation in 1974, K.H.Steuernagel Lichttechnik GmbH (KHS) has taken on the challenge of developing application-based solutions for technical lighting meeting the testing needs of the user. In addition to the practical conception and fabrication of technical lighting systems, KHS continually invests in research and development to maximize design possibilities and incorporate new techniques for the benefit of KHS customers. KHS first started in the field of lighting systems for the motion picture and television industry. In 1977, the first lighting system for high-speed photography was installed at GM Opel in Rüsselsheim, Germany. This marked the first step towards KHS becoming a well-known specialist for technical lighting and radiation systems serving the high-speed photography and solar simulation testing community. Back then as well as today, the automotive industry, their suppliers and many scientific institutes, worldwide, has played a significant part as our most important partners. We acknowledge and appreciate our partners in the automotive and scientific community and accept the responsibility to serve them as our present and future customers. The primary direction of KHS is within the range of lighting systems for high-speed photography & video and within the range of radiation system for solarsimulation. High-Speed-Photography One example of a photographic technique application is the high-speed photography for the analysis of fast events as used for safety test on complete vehicles and components within the automotive industry. Using standardized “Car to Car, Barrier, Repulse Sled and Airbag Deployment Tests” safety and reliability process testing incorporating KHS lighting technology is performed. The KHS lighting system assures that the film and/or video analysis of the event is bright, clear, color correct, shadowless and flicker free.
For this application KHS developed the special “BOOST technique” that is used in our HIGH-S-LIGHT series product line. Together with the employment of other subsystems such as specialty spot lighting, pit lighting, on-board lighting, automatic luminary positioning and integrated control systems, almost any test configuration can be matched.
Solarsimulation
The second application range of our light and radiation systems is the simulation of solar radiation or better the total radiation (direct solar plus sky radiation). These solarsimulation units are used to determine the aging behavior of organic materials, to optimize HVAC systems and for the examination of thermal effects. Solarsimulation can also be an important tool in the development of solar energy conversion systems. The KHS SolarConstant series product line offers adaptable systems to meet the requirements of various test configurations and fulfil applications that require or demand effective solar simulation.
Planning, Design and Production A critical part in the development of any technical lighting solution is a detailed knowledge of the application and the related objectives. Consequently the discussion with the user is in the approach of each planning. This close cooperation to accurately define the test application assures that the final design of the system will satisfy the test objectives. We do individual tailor-made consult on the problem, acquire specifications and investigate also in alternative solutions and techniques. To find the best solutions for the fulfillment of the different requirements, KHS uses computer aided design and measurement equipment along with various instrumen-tation to analyze the relevant radiation and light sources. Experts in the field of radiation sources, optics, power supplies, computer integration and other important engineering fields are available and effectively utilized within the KHS design team structure. Once the pre-design period is complete the final design and fabrication begins according to the project schedule. Based on the project specifications all components are checked prior to use within the complete system. Mechanical, electrical, electronic and optical tests are performed. We are equipped with the necessary standard and specialty instrumentation to perform mechanical, electrical, photonic and spectral measurements as part of our quality control and pre-ship test process. Once the system is assembled, com-prehensive system function testing is performed in our workshop. At the installation site KHS specialists remain involved during the entire installation process. After the system has been installed, KHS engineers set the system into operation, calibrate and perform operational acceptance tests. Upon completing the installation and calibration, KHS provides user training, along with practical support on the performance of actual testing. KHS continues to furnish maintenance and service support to assure that the test system provides many years of reliable operation. Considering our years of experience and the exchange of ideas with our partners and clients, the KHS organization is a competent partner for your demand in lighting and solarsimulation systems. We have the know-how that will guarantee satisfactory solutions and innovations to match the challenges of the future. |
